Hampton 80" Standard 1" Chrome Beefy Bar Review

This bar is a great option if you already own a collection of standard (1" hole) plates and want an Olympic bar feel and quality without having to replace everything. The weight capacity is much higher than most standard bards (500 lbs, per company representative), as the thickness between the sleeves is standard Olympic grip (28 mm). They apparently take a thicker solid piece and mill down just the sleeve area to fit the 1" plates. It also has ring marks to measure grip (though for some unknown reason a bit wider than standard markings), center knurling, and quality chrome finish. The 80" length still has 52" between collars to fit Olympic-width benches and squat racks (and at 4 inches shorter than 7 foot bar, it fits better in small spaces with more than enough loading room for the vast majority of lifters). The sleeves don't rotate, of course, for true Olympic lifts, though the non-threaded version will allow enough plate spinning for power lifts, as well as doing power cleans in my experience. All in all a much better quality bar than most standard bars that should hold up to all but the strongest lifters.
Note: this company also makes very nice quality 16 inch standard dumbbell handles.

The bar curves at sharper angles than most cheaper curl bars, giving a better grip and leverage to target biceps. There's no cheating here, just the proper angles and grip locations to ensure your biceps are doing the work, and not your wrists. Of course you can do reverse curls and use this on a preacher curl station, or do those weird head crushing triceps moves, so this is a great bar for biceps, triceps (with a bench), and forearms.
I had one of these a few years ago, and was curling about 80lbs. then I gave it away when I joined a gym, but the gym had lame curl bars, and suddenly I thought I was wimping out, only being able to handle 50-60lb. curls. I didn't know the angle of the curved bar had such an effect, but the new bar was putting all the weight on my lower arms, which of course are weaker, and need their own separate exercises and weights. But now I'm back on the good ship here, and suddenly understanding more about the mechanics of a proper arm curl, including grip and hand angle etc.
