SpareHand Q-Rak Dual Bike Rack - Floor To Ceiling Storage Rack Review

Extremely lightweight and easy to install; because it is pressure-mounted, you don't need to make any holes in the wall, floor, or ceiling. It's a little awkward to mount two bikes, though not impossible. An excellent product.

Sunlite Bicycle Welded Spring Rear Rack, (Black) Review

Sunlite Bicycle Welded Spring Rear Rack, (Black)

This is a great rear rack.
Once it is on the bike it is on there very good...no rattling around, etc.
Very easy to strap almost anything on to it. I purchased one of their bags at the same time so it is a very nice fit.
I agree with the other reviewers that the instructions (if you can call them that) that come with the product are just worthless.
The only reason I did not give it Five Stars is because of this. And their website also does not have anything else to fall back on.
Rather than frustrate yourself with the supplied directions make sure you have your bike right in front of you along with the online picture of the rack itself itself...it is really easier to figure it out on your own.
So let me try to explain best I can...
FIRST --Attaching this to your bike is dependent upon the frame having pre-threaded holes on it for the bolts that come with the rack. This must be some kind of industry standard. But I did not understand this part going into it which is why I was frustrated
So look at your frame and make sure you have the pre-tapped holes both at the top part of the rear frame where it starts coming down to the rear tire and down where the rear tire itself fits in. My bike had "place holder" bolts already in these holes to stop debris from getting inside so I removed them and used the longer screws that came with the rack.
See the silver/chrome parts of the rack in the picture...
First you will have to attach the angled parts to the top of the rack with the little U-shaped bracket pieces. But don't tighten it down yet. They should remain loose and flexible at this point.
Magnify the online photo to see this more clearly.
The bottom silver parts adjust up/down depending on the type of tire you have...
Notice at the end of each of these four silver pieces are holes where the bolt will go through.
These holes line up with the pre-theaded holes on your bike frame.
So slip the bolt and washer through and tighten them down to the bike frame first but still just a tiny bit loose.
Then push the rack around a bit to make sure it is level and straight. This is the reason why we did not fully tighten the top silver parts to the rack itself earlier so that we would have this flexibility.
Once you are satisfied everything is level...crank ALL down bolts very tight.
At this point go ahead and grab the rack and pick up your whole bike that way....you will see how solidly it is on there.
Enjoy!

Okay, we have a new basement, that needed organizing, so I started with our bikes.
The box came quickly and I set it downstairs. No more than 10 minutes lapsed and my 7 year old son put the whole thing together. I put all the screws in and tightened them, but he did it himself and without the instructions! No kidding! Our bikes are all in order now and I smiled when I look at the rack! Have fun!

Wald #215WW Woody Rear Mount Bicycle Rack Review

Great item, can't wait to install. Can't be hard to install 'cause no instructions came with it. Think I can do it. Luckily the bag of hardware that had a manufacturers hang hole in it and let the every piece of hardware included on the loose during shipping, is all there and didn't scratch the wood that I can see. The box was really too big and very poorly packed.

Kuat designed the Alpha rack for those that want a great looking way to get their bikes from A to B but don't want to hire a Nascar pit crew to put it on and take it off of their ride. The Alpha offers all the bennies you would expect from a high end bike rack; integrated locks, anti sway cradles, a compact folding design and two beautiful color choices to awe onlooking traffic. Pyramid MXII BMX Bicycle Handlebar, Crossbar Style, 26Wx 8Hx 7/8", Chrome Review

Pyramid MXII BMX Bicycle Handlebar, Crossbar Style, 26Wx 8Hx 7/8, Chrome
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought these to modify an an old no-name cruiser that a friend gave me. I wanted higher handlebars, but with a 7/8" handlebar mount, there aren't many options. So I took a chance on these basic and inexpensive bars, and was delighted with the results. I can now ride in a much more comfortable position, and the bars seem solid and sturdy. I finished them off with a set of Sunlite Gel Mountain Bicycle Grips, and now I feel like I've got a whole new ride!
NOTE: because of the BMX-style crossbar design, these bars will only work on a bike where the handlebar stem has four bolts in it, not the clamping kind with just one bolt, where you slide the handlebars through the central stem. And you need to make sure your bike has 7/8" handlebars, not the kind that get thicker at the area where you clamp them. Many modern bars are 7/8" but they are 1" thick at the center. These bars are 7/8" throughout, and will only work for bikes with similar sized bars.
These were ordered via Niagara Cycle Works, and they shipped the items promptly - two thumbs up for them as well!

Kuat Beta 2-Bicycle Hitch Rack Review

Kuat Beta 2-Bicycle Hitch Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Kuat Bike Rack is the best bike rack I have ever used. Light weight (I have a bad back), and east to use. The bike does not wobble with the 4 strap attachment system, the mount rotates 360 degrees so the bike can be mounted right or left, and the rack doesn't wobble in the hitch because of the cam tightener. I would recommend this rack to anyone.

So you want a rack that's even lighter than the Alpha? We put the Beta through boot camp and it came out leaner and meaner than ever. We decided to keep things simple with the Beta, all you get is the lightest and easiest to use hitch rack of all time. It hauls two bikes instead of three so you have an excuse to leave "glued to his blackberry guy" at home. It comes in our most popular color, black chrome..

Kuat NV 2-Bicycle Hitch Rack Review

Kuat NV 2-Bicycle Hitch Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've ownded an old Sportworks T2 (now Thule T2) for the past 5-6 years. It's been a great rack that's served me very well. Unfortunately, the backbone finally wore out on the rack and needed to be replaced. Sadly, Thule doesn't sell this part anymore, so you have to replace the entire rack now. They also don't sell replacement bushings for the hinge, which is a shame because the bushings wear out rather quickly when you add on the 2 bike extension. As a result I was in the market for a new rack. The T2 worked very well for me, but after seeing some friends have some catastrophic failures that involved very expensive bikes I decided to look around to see what else is out there.
When I saw the NV, I was really impressed. And after using it for a few months, I have to say it's the best rack I've owned.
The anti-rattle mechanism on the T2 was really poorly designed. I don't know anyone who has a hitch that it works properly with. The mechanism on the NV is much better and works really well. This is really important, because when the rack bounces around it wears all of the other parts out which leads to failures. I've seen these happen first hand and they're never good.
Also, the hinge on the NV is much better. The T2 hinge is overly complicated and a bit delicate. If you just run 2 bikes, it's fine. But if you run 4, it gets sloppy rather quickly; and slop is the kiss of death with these racks. The NV hinge is really simple, overbuilt, and works very smoothly. I vastly prefer it to the hinge on T2. That said, there is one issue with it. The stop on the hinge was designed for only two bikes. If you run the 2 bike extension, the extension will contact the ground when you tilt the rack down. You can use the plastic end cap on the bike stand to support it, which works pretty well but isn't ideal. It's not a big deal, but it's something to be aware of if you tilt the rack down with 4 bikes on it. Another note is that the hinge and main backbone with the arms sit higher on the NV than the T2. I shuttle bikes off-road frequently, and the end of my T2 used to bottom out in certain cicumstances. It was even worse if you had to back up in a weird spot. The extra ground clearance provided by the NV is really nice in this regard. I've also had the rack on a 4Runner and a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup and haven't had any issues with tailgate/hatch clearance.
Also, the bike cross arms are much sturdier on the NV. The cross braces that hold the T2 arms to the backbone sometimes warp, bend, and break. Losing an expensive bike at 65 mph on the highway isn't so much fun when the brace breaks or warps and slides off the end of the backbone. The arms on the NV are really strong (more on that later) and due to the way they're attached, they attach much more securely to the backbone. I also don't understand the previous reviewer's concern about tires wearing the paint off the arms. The paint on the rack is really sturdy and appears to have a glossy protective coat on top. Besides, if you secure your tire properly with the strap (which is really important anyway) then the tire won't rub against the paint at all. I will give the T2 the nod here for the rear tire strapping mechanism though. Even thought Thule cheapened the design vs the better old Sportworks mechanism, it's still pretty good. That said, it's not a big deal. Both the NV and T2 will secure your rear tire really well.
One other note. The cable locks on the NV are nice feature, but the cables are short. You can only run them through the frame or maybe one tire at best. They're good if you're only going to be away from the bikes for a couple of minutes; otherwise, I'd invest in a really good, long cable lock or chain. At least they're better than the locks on the T2, which are a joke. Still, it's not a selling point on either rack. And if you really care about your bikes, you won't leave them on for extended periods of time whether you have a better cable or not. Then you're just begging to get them stolen.
All that said, what really sold me on the NV is what happened on my last big road trip. We had a two day drive to get back home and stopped at a hotel overnight to get some rest. When we woke up in the morning, we discovered that someone had backed into the rack in the parking lot despite the fact we had swung it upright. The impact had cracked a couple of the arms on one side and twisted the whole rack on the main pivot. Unfortunately, we had no choice but to load up all 4 bikes on the rack and take our chances. The rack went another 500 miles with almost 160 lbs of bikes on it and didn't suffer any further damage nor did it fail.
All in all, I've been extremely impressed with this rack. It's extremely well built and very well thought out. I'd highly recommend you give it a look if you're in the market for a bike rack.

Electra Amsterdam Alloy Men's Bicycle Rack (Chrome Plated) Review

Electra Amsterdam Alloy Men's Bicycle Rack (Chrome Plated)
Average Reviews:

I've looked at gobs of racks to fit our lovely Trek tandem cruiser. These Amsterdam racks from Electra, with their oversized tubing and elegant "swoop" design, were the only thing I found that seemed like a good match.
However, be careful when you're buying these, as they're made specifically to fit Electra bikes, and it may be a challenge to get them to fit anything else. (In fact, I believe these are the only Electra racks that are adjustable in any way.) I couldn't find any specs on these, even on the Electra site or in their catalog. (I even tried calling the company; they were very helpful, but didn't give me completely accurate measurements.) I ended up ordering both the men's and women's versions of the rack from Amazon to find the best fit. Here's what I discovered:
- Racks are slightly different than shown in the picture. There's an additional cross-bar near the front where it bolts to the seatpost.
- These WILL NOT ATTACH to your seat stays, and can't be bent out due to the new extra cross-bar. They'll only work with a seatpost rack clamp. Electra sells 2 sizes, not included with this rack. You can get add'l sizes from other manufacturers that should work too.
- The men's & women's are identical, except that the women's is LONGER by 1". Struts are the same on both.
Measurements:
- Rack length, tip to tail: 21.25" men's, 22.25" women's.
- Strut length: 16.25" from the center of the top pivot point to the center of the bottom bolt hole. Note that the struts have a 45° bend in them near the top, but I was measuring in a straight line from hole to hole. Pivot point is about half an inch below the level of the rack.
- "Swoop": puts the seatpost attachment about 2.25" below the level of the rack.
The struts are about an inch too long on our bike, but I'm drilling some holes in the frame near the bottom dropouts that should make them work. They're aluminum, so modifying or welding them isn't really an option.

Wald #215 Rear Mount Bicycle Rack Review

Wald #215 Rear Mount Bicycle Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been commuting all winter using this steel rack, and steel Wald baskets too, and I finally switched back to an old aluminum rack. The Wald steel rack is fine in itself, but it mounts in front with a very flimsy bracket that is held to the rack with one small screw and bolt. This is entirely insufficient, and leads to a wobbly rack system.
A bike rack is generally useless unless it can be firmly mounted to the seat stays of the frame. My commuter bike doesn't have eyelets for mounting a rack, but many racks are sold with little adapter fittings that can attach to the seat stays. The Wald rack would be greatly improved if it could be mounted this way. But even if it could, the rack is made of very soft steel, and the rack itself is still quite flexible.
Buy a cheap aluminum rack instead, you'll have far fewer problems!
